Speaking to Inspire at Empowering Anxiety Event

Last night I had an opportunity to speak at Katie Godden’s Anxiety Solutions Workshop at Nemingha.  This empowering event, with 50 attendees, shared strategies to help women manage anxiety and stress.  Courage and confidence to find our own way by prioritising our own wellbeing was the key message delivered.

I shared my personal story when anxiety was crippling my life and when life changes revealed a future that scared me.  After raising my children and now needing a new life purpose, it was scary not knowing what the future will hold.  As women, we do question our position in life, our purpose and knowing who we really are.

When I started to lose that grip on my life, worry set in.  The WHAT IF cycle had hold of me.  As a renowned control freak, I love order and structure.  I was the organiser and the strength to get things done in my family and beyond.  This was proving to be a struggle.

Anxiety used to rule my life.  Anxiety used to control all of my decisions and lack of decisions.  Anxiety doesn’t discriminate and can affect anyone at any time.  We can experience anxiety at different levels, in different ways, sometimes more severe than others.

It is not about the anxiety… it is about… WHAT YOU DO ABOUT IT.

I made a choice to get help and put myself first.  I was determined to change my life around.  I put strategies in place.  I learned to say NO.  I set boundaries for my family to know what was important to me.

I realised that I cannot be there for anyone else unless I take care of myself first.  I set my own goals for my own future.  This formed part of my mission of personal growth and self-discovery.  Whatever it is that you want in life, you are all capable of achieving it.

I am now able to manage my anxiety and convert it into nervous energy that motivates me.  I listen to my body and mind to know what is best for me and the ones I love.

When you are back in control, the anxiety doesn’t control you.  There is so much self-satisfaction about taking on challenges and no longer worrying excessively.

If somebody told me 6 months ago that I would be public speaking, there is no way I would have believed it.  I feared public speaking all of my life.  Now, it is just another challenge and an opportunity to share my story to inspire others.

All we want in life is to be the best person we can be.  To be at our best, so we can take on life.  When we are at our best, we are happy, really happy.  Everyone deserves to be happy.  That happiness is contagious and will flow through to others.

It was a privilege to be able to speak and inspire other individuals last night on a topic that is rarely spoken about.  I am grateful that those 50 attendees walked away knowing their own worth and have started that inner process of taking back control.  50 beautiful normal everyday women, just wanting the best for themselves and the ones they love.

We all have the capability of being true to ourself, taking care of ourself and accepting that we deserve it.

Thank you to Katie Godden for putting this empowering program together to help us all change our lives for the better.  And thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to speak and connect with others.

Also thank you to Nemingha Public School P&C for applying for funding through the Primary Health Network (PHN) to bring awareness and assistance on a very important topic that needs to be spoken about. Anxiety is very common, yet very misunderstood.  This event brought clarity and useful strategies for moving forward.

Take care, Karen.

Toastmasters Reclaims Motivation

How does one go from feeling overwhelmed with a mind full of chaos, to a sense of calmness with empowering motivation?  Step outside your comfort zone, play the game of life and allow Toastmasters back into your busy schedule.

My mind was feeling like a complete mess with so many work activities and commitments.  I was starting to feel like that image of the calm looking duck upon the lake… with those webbed feet madly paddling beneath.  At what point do we say enough is enough?

How many times in life do we question our direction and our choices?  We allow ourselves to be dragged along, ensuring that we do everything that we must and somehow try to saviour a little time for yourself.

I had been crossing off events from my calendar and any activity that was not work-related got scratched.  Trying to free up some space in my daily schedule.  But was I crossing out the correct choices for me?

Tonight I made that decision, without planning, stepped outside my comfort zone once again.  I had not attended a Toastmasters meeting for months.  Thinking I needed a break and I wouldn’t miss it for a while.  But what I noticed was that I was losing my confidence.  That confidence that was starting to develop when speaking to a group… had started to be lost.

Nervously I jumped into Tamworth Toastmasters again tonight and I am loving the outcome.  Feeling full of motivation with a feeling of complete support and friendship, I have realised that Toastmasters is what is missing in my life.  I am keen to work on my next speech already.

From a morning with back pain and lacking the enthusiasm to do anything more than office work… to a vibrant and interesting evening.  Have you ever felt the need to pike out and push something aside?

After nearly 12 months of no real haircuts because farming finances became far too important to be spending it upon me.  I finally went back to my hairdresser, feeling guilty that I wasn’t able to support her business when the drought had impacted farther afield.  Almost like magic, a simple haircut… no colour, no style… just a haircut, lifted my spirits.  It felt like a load off.  A fringe that had grown out.  A good tidy up, far exceeded expectations.

Then the doctor visit for the dreaded pap smear.  Ladies, I know you understand!  Say no more.  The anxiety and stress around this visit clearly subsided.  Then to review my health care plan.  NOOOO!  I have put on 2kg.  Feeling sorry for myself again about now.

Waiting at the pharmacy for medication, one brief phone call was to change my thought process and how I might react.  A lady cared enough to phone to see how I was going and to make sure everything was OK.  Truthfully no not OK, but I was reminded of what Toastmasters could do for me.

A simple phone call encouraged me to come along tonight.  Without any paperwork, no plans, no badge… I rocked up to the meeting.  Within minutes I felt almost at ease, was speaking on an impromptu task and took on the task of evaluating a speech.

It absolutely amazes me how I can be so nervous yet so calm and excited, all at the same time.  I am so very shy when it comes to speaking, but something ignites within me and I share my passion verbally.

The highlight of the Toastmasters evening for me, was being told that my impromptu speech comes straight from the heart and is spoken with complete honesty.  That is exactly what I want to be able to do when I speak to inspire people.

I think we all have more ability than what we realise.  Every time I hear somebody speak, whether it is a newcomer or a more experienced speaker… we under-estimate our own ability yet think everyone else speaks wonderfully.

Toastmasters gives you the opportunity to improve your communication skills, build confidence and leadership skills, all within a fun supportive learning environment.  We all share our experiences, share stories and help each other.  We laugh and enjoy the evening, and we listen to interesting speakers.  Some of us share knowledge and educate, some share inspiration and uplift us and some share their unique passions in life.

I would like to extend a formal invitation to you if you live in the Tamworth area to attend our next Tamworth Toastmasters meeting, as a Guest.  It will be held on 9th September at West Tamworth League Club, Phillip Street, West Tamworth, 6:45 for 7pm start.  Come and see for yourself what Toastmasters can offer you.

If you live outside this area, I invite you to seek out your closest Toastmasters club and encourage you to challenge yourself and see how your life will improve.  You will be more confident, will have better communication skills and life just becomes more interesting.

Be the best person you can be and with Toastmasters you may just discover that person hiding within.  If I can do it… so can you!

Take care, Karen.

Rural Reflections #23

The light has been flickering as I have been juggling life, businesses and my own personal growth.  I have been neglecting to share my photos with you as part of my weekly feature Rural Reflections.  Guilty I am, but I am back with so much to share.  Thank you for waiting for me.

My passion to be more, and to do more, has led me to a new business and new skills to excel with.  My underlying desire for sustaining the agricultural industry still exists beneath it all, but my passion to expand and inspire people every day has become the driver in my life.  And I am loving life right now.

Remember back, only a year ago, I was suffering from depression and feeling sorry for myself.  Angry that I had to experience such heart-wrenching feelings and loss of all basic motivation in life.  Depression and anxiety had overwhelmed me… I had no idea what was going to happen and where life was guiding me.

So many of us, unfortunately, do go through these depressive numbing cycles and anxiety can consume us every day.  My gift was to experience this first-hand.  In hindsight, I now know that it had to happen.  How was I to understand if I didn’t feel it for myself?

This time in my life… was necessary to reveal my true passion and what I can do for the world around me.  I was determined and with the support around me, I made it through… with flying colours.

My new business provides freelance writing, administration services, hypnotherapy, speaking and life/business coaching.  Every day I feel so blessed and grateful to be able to share my skills with those in need.  Those that need guidance… those that need office management… and those that need the inspiration to believe in themselves.  My words are my gift and I am on a journey to share and to uplift each and every one of you.

Today marks the day, I have set up my new office.  My own room dedicated to me, my gifts, my valued clients and the changes that await all of us.  This office symbolises a separate part of my life… separate from the farming business.  This is my space, my personal inspiration and my business motivation.

I want to share with you, this photo today… taken only 2 months ago on my farm.  Still suffering from the effects of drought, yet the oats are growing despite the odds.  For me, this photo symbolises my personal journey.  I had the odds stacked against me, but I continued to grow.  I did what I needed to do.  The beautiful sunlight is captured in this photo, shining that healing light upon me.

23 The Light Shining Within

We all need to find that one thing that brings us happiness and pure joy… and share that gift with the world.  Recognise what is against you and make choices to move forward for the betterment of you, those you love and those that need you in the wider community.

The greatest joy in this world is when we can reach out and help someone else.  This gives us purpose and a vision on our horizon.  I am no different from you all.  You too have the capability to find yourself and chase your dreams.

Believe in yourself and believe you will do it.  And you will!

Take care, Karen.

My stay at the Mantra Legends Hotel in Surfers Paradise QLD, whilst attending the Grow Your Speaking Biz Workshop has been wonderful… a home away from home.  Large rooms, comfortable surroundings, delicious food and lovely staff.

I ended up with a King Size bed, which was very comfortable, although I still managed to almost fall out.  Not used to sleeping in such a large bed without my hubby next to me and I slept right on the edge.

Whilst I have been enjoying myself, perfecting new skills and networking here on the Gold Coast QLD, my wonderful husband and youngest son have been managing the farming property and business.  I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity to pursue something that I am passionate about.

IMG_1585

The next phase of my life will involve setting up my new business with more focus on the direction and the services that I now provide.  The farming business will run alongside, whilst I share my time between both businesses.

Now that I have raised our 2 wonderful sons, this is my new purpose in life and I am taking the opportunity to enrich many lives.  So now my life has been expanded as I now will speak at events or functions.

When you let your guard down, show a little vulnerability and take on the challenge… life feels magical.

As your story begins to unravel and listening ears are quiet in wonderment… changes are taking place for others.  It is beautiful when someone understands that they have the power to improve their own life and I have the tools to get them there faster.

Take care, Karen.

Learning by Relaxation with Modern Hypnosis

It is true… I am now a qualified hypnotherapist.

Our brains are like a sponge and they never stop learning.  As you know, I love personal growth, learning and connecting with people.  Helping individuals to feel better and to live better… brings me passion and delight.  To be able to inspire others and change people’s lives for the better… is simply exhilarating.

On my learning journey, I have just spent 3 days at a Modern Hypnosis Workshop with Sharon Jurd and the SMJ Coaching Institute.  Learning the craft of hypnotherapy, the power of relaxation and the benefits of making life changes.  A technique that brings beautiful results for the client… ending a long period of dissatisfaction in a specific way.

Most people do not understand hypnosis, mainly due to unrealistic stage shows and the fear of not being in control.  This is a BIG MYTH.  Hypnosis is an awake state, but a state of deep relaxation.  It is an opportunity for imagination, visualisation and exercise for the mind.  Hypnosis allows a connection with our unconscious mind to make positive changes in our lives.

During the hypnosis training, I learned in-depth knowledge about the operation of our unconscious mind and its purpose in storing and organising memories.  The unconscious mind brilliantly allows our body to operate, breathe and move without consciously thinking about how to do such natural tasks.  It also maintains our body’s integrity and listens intently to what we tell it.

The unconscious mind fascinates me… how it protects us and is like our best friend.  We have to learn to listen and be kind to it.  Our personal values are embedded within our unconscious mind and this is what is important to us individually.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that everybody will experience every single day.  A naturally occurring trance state is experienced, just before you fall asleep at night and just upon waking of a morning when eyes are still closed but you are aware of your surrounds.  Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical faculty of our minds.

Accepting selective thinking and concepts through suggestion to improve one’s life, is the real purpose of hypnosis.  Hypnosis is practiced with integrity and is consistent with your values.

When under hypnosis, a person will not accept or do any suggestion that they do not want to.  The client is always in control.  The hypnotherapist is merely a facilitator in guiding their client’s required outcome successfully.

surreal-1768210_960_720

Hypnosis is a very old technique, practiced under a number of alternate labels throughout history.  But it was not until 1958 that hypnotherapy was officially recognised by the American Medical Association.  The development and implementation of hypnotherapy over thousands of years has led to many changes.  Modern hypnosis is used for deep relaxation, to assist medically and to make essential lifestyle changes.

I am now a qualified Hypnotherapy Practitioner, after having completed the required training and I have acquired specific skills.  I am certified in hypnosis for performance enhancement for sport, personal and business success, weight loss and healthier choices, bad habits such as nail-biting or overeating, and to quit smoking.  Also, the rapid relaxation technique, arm levitation, and anchoring emotions… are wonderful tools to improve lives.  I have also learned pain control hypnosis, but a referral from a GP is required to first rule out serious medical conditions.

My first client spoke of the amazing process of hypnosis, the desired results and how this will change her life significantly.  As a qualified hypnotherapist, it is very gratifying to hear of how significantly you have contributed to a person’s life and changed it for the better.

Hypnosis is only for those people that want to change something within their lives.  There needs to be a conscious commitment to pursue change, for the unconscious mind to fully connect with the decision and the suggested hypnotic process.

I look forward to implementing my certified hypnosis training and developing more skills in the future.  Learning is always an on-going process to keep up-to-date and extend your ability to provide respected services to the community.

The learning experience was very enjoyable, full of passion and motivation with our master trainer Sharon Jurd and her crew.  It was a pleasure to learn in her welcoming and empowering environment with other like-minded and passionate people.  I was fortunate to be able to share this beautiful learning encounter with my sister-in-law.  We were able to catch-up on family updates, laugh together and learn together.  A beautiful weekend on the Gold Coast was enjoyed.

Take care, Karen.

Taking Control of Business and Empowering Life

An incredibly inspiring 2-day event with knowledgable businesswomen, Katie Godden and Sharon Jurd, leaves motivation within me.  Motivation to take control, stop procrastinating and put the success strategies learned into action.  My personal experience was shared with other business attendees.

Katie Godden, a mindset strategist, business and life coach, is based in Tamworth NSW.  Her passion has given country business people access to business strategies and techniques shared at specialised events, usually held in capital cities.  This weekend business owners had an incredible opportunity to learn skills from an enthusiastic and empowering businesswoman, Katie Godden, right here in Tamworth NSW.

Together with Sharon Jurd, an extremely knowledgable growth strategist and success coach, based on the Gold Coast QLD, they shared business strategies to bring success in business.  Sharon Jurd is incredibly experienced with a passion to help people succeed.

IMG_1304

These two extraordinary women shared their unique knowledge and wisdom with business attendees.  Information learned ranged from management of databases to strategic alliances and client relationship building.  The networking opportunities gained by all attendees were appreciated.

I enjoyed the strategies of developing rapport and connecting with clients.  The language predicates of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic… I found very interesting.  Sensory acuity and personality profiling really intrigued me.  Client satisfaction and staff interaction is very important in business.

SMART goal setting was fine-tuned and understood to be very specific.  Personal values and business values were concluded for each of us, and an opportunity to re-shuffle our values to be in alignment the best possible way.

Limiting beliefs are the foggy cloud that dampens our positive thought process, so the strategies to challenge and remove these limiting obstacles will be a wonderful technique for all.  It is us that puts these limiting beliefs in our own path to restrict our opportunities.  It will be a relief to challenge these restricting thoughts.

Value levels thinking, a psychological model of a person’s development that influences their behaviour and views.  This introduced an interesting concept from basic human survival mode through to the greater universe.

Setting boundaries for business interactions and expectations will prove to make life less chaotic and work more effectively in both business and our personal life.  I look forward to implementing my boundaries and time management skills.

IMG_1305

The idea of stepping outside our comfort zone has always been a little daunting, but this new concept learned, of expanding our comfort zone is simply amazing.  The visual concept of still feeling somewhat comfortable, yet excited for a challenge, is positively accepted in my world.

These new strategies and thought-provoking notions have enabled me to think a little differently, implement some helpful business ideas, add value to my business and be passionate about the direction my business is going.  Helping people is what I love to do.

I was extremely grateful to have these two businesswomen present engaging content and useful business strategies at this 2-day event.  If you get the opportunity, I would recommend Katie Godden and Sharon Jurd for business events and life coaching.

The kindness, motivation and expertise of these two unique women, drive me to succeed in my business and my life.  I was even brought to tears today, when they offered a great deal for a magnitude of future events for the business attendees.  The generosity and heartfelt desire to help others and motivate… I did see first-hand.

My tears flowed when I realised these women had a passion to give support, business direction and advice to us.  Truly remarkable women!  I felt a connection and look forward to future workshops and seminars with both of them.  Thank you ladies!

Take care, Karen.

Immersion Writing Reveals Passion and Truth

As my passion for writing has developed, I have discovered the style that brings my writing to life and that special something that enthrals me.  A connection with Non-Fiction Immersion Writing is where I have selected to lay my written thoughts and focus significantly on experiencing what I write about.

Why?  My lack of imagination limits my ability in writing fiction, so alternatively real honest facts are what drives me… so non-fiction it is.  Some authors are very creative in their ability to engage through their story-telling, but not me.  I am a stickler for only speaking from experiences within my life and what captivates me.

Immersion Writing is a style of journalism where the writer immerses themselves into a situation and with the people involved.  The result focuses on the experience rather than the writer.  The personal connection with the topic gives a real sense of engagement and honest exposure when writing an article.

This style of writing allows the author to throw themself into the centre of the story and describe the unique experience honestly.  Essentially you become the main character with the ability to immerse the readers in to your story.  Types of non-fiction immersion writing includes memoirs of your life, journalism and unusual travel diaries.  The focus is on the experience rather than the writer.

By writing in this interesting style, you can describe a situation that you have personally experienced, that the reader may not have experienced themselves, but can understand by simply reading your words.  It provides a wonderful sense of immersion by not only the writer, but also by the reader.

Honesty and truth is the key to writing non-fiction immersion writing.  It can be a challenge to step outside your comfort zone, remove any barriers, expose yourself and confront the subject head-on.  You can’t be shy if you want to connect with your readers.

Immersion writing can reveal blunt truths, even about yourself, and can be difficult to write about sometimes.  But readers love to see how others deal with complex or difficult situations and appreciate the engagement of sharing.

For me, non-fiction immersion writing is my choice of style because I love honesty, engaging with community members and inspiring others.  I can write about personal experiences, struggles, everyday hassles, aspirations and still be able to help someone else through my words and ability to connect with my readers.

Often people would ask me… why do you write a blog?  The answer is simple.  I love to provide inspiration, encourage others, show compassion and empathy, bring value to other people’s lives… as well as promote the future of the agricultural industry through my writing.

All my passion is wrapped up in what I do every day… whether it be writing, administration, organisation and structure, charitable activities, creativeness or farming.  My blog is a means to express feeling, emotion and coherence to other people’s lives, as well as bring value to mine.

Honesty and integrity is my driving force… so there is no better style of writing that I could choose than non-fiction immersion writing.  It is a perfect match for me.  And now my new business with freelance writing, brings my passion to a career.

The challenge as a writer… is to find that special style that suits you and brings the best attributes into your writing.  The secret is to be genuinely passionate about what you choose to write and engage with your readers through your sincere words.  Happiness is when you sincerely love your job.

Take care,

Karen

CWA Conference Aspires Leadership & Friendship from Albury

Country Women’s Association of NSW (CWA) members bring an abundance of knowledge, energy and inspiration into Albury NSW for this year’s Annual State Conference.  From business meetings, honourable guests and informative workshops… to social activities, historical tours and State Committee displays… there was never a dull moment.  And I have caught it on camera, then compiled a video to share with you today.

I had the privilege to attend as a Delegate for Tamworth Evening branch along with my friend Kylie and a group of ladies from our region.  Women from all walks of life coming together with their unique backgrounds, experiences and expertise to seek a mutual resolution of motions.

CWA aims to improve the lives of women and their families through their democratic process of a policy-setting agenda and an extensive range of activities.  Many opportunities lie within all levels of CWA to be involved and seek the support of local issues of grave concern.

Starting with a combined Ecumenical Service and raising $2,884 for the Albury Wodonga Cancer Research Fund, members once again unite and connect socially.  The Official Opening entertained and inspired members prior to the Business Sessions commencing.  The keynote speaker was Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC Governor of NSW.

The CWA Medical Research Fund has raised $34,000 to donate towards endometriosis.  A debilitating disease affecting many women with symptoms of pelvic pain and fertility issues.  An interesting medical presentation has identified through research the importance of potential protein biomarkers of endometriosis.  CWA members have voted to continue supporting endometriosis through their Medical Research Fund for another year.

Interestingly CWA has opened 12 new branches over the last year; 11 Evening branches and 1 Sunrise branch.  CWA is now appealing to younger generations and working women that have a desire to become involved, having an opportunity to attend meetings that are more convenient.

Women join CWA for a variety of reasons such as friendships, social connections, educational opportunities, sharing of experiences, learning cookery skills, creating handicraft items, to discuss local agricultural concerns, the policy-setting agenda… and the list goes on.

International information was shared on the CWA Country of Study for this year which is Papua New Guinea.  Other cultures are interesting and CWA members have the ability to learn new and fascinating information.

Business Sessions continued throughout the Conference where policy motions were discussed, amended as needed and then voted upon.  A diverse range of topics arose in the scope of agriculture and environment, health and social security, transport and telecommunications and Constitutional changes.

Important resolutions were sought from CWA branches and successfully made CWA State policy for topics such as rural crime, improper use of drones, travelling stock routes, food safety standards for meat and milk, erecting a wildlife overpass, dairy industry issues, public cancer clinics, post mortems, supporting nurses, health industry pricing, drought relief funding, scoliosis, Automated External Defibrilators, horse traffic road rules, and truck-specific rest areas.

CWA, as the largest women’s organisation in Australia, plays an important role in lobbying the Government for change and improvements across so many aspects of our lives.  I am very proud to be a part of such an hounourable and progressive organisation.

As a shy individual, with the thought of public speaking terrifying me all of my life, I chose to step up and speak at this year’s State Conference.  This decision aligned well with my current journey of personal growth and challenging myself.

I spoke against a motion and explained my reasoning, without falter, in front of 500 other members.  When a Past State President asked for me (and another member) to assist in the re-wording of the motion to incorporate the relevant concerns, it felt amazing to be part of this process, working together for the desired result.  The motion was to review a weed classification, educate and research.

Another highlight for me, was winning 3rd place in an annual essay competition presented by the Honorary Editor of the CWA Journal.  This was the first time I had entered a CWA competition, so I was very excited.  The essay topic was “In modern times, do we have the capacity to harness the power of empathy for one another?”  I found this topic very engaging and relatable, therefore very passionate to write about.

Socially we had a very entertaining week away, with plenty of laughter, great meals, dancing and friendly conversations.  I also caught up with some old friends and was delighted to see them again.  CWA brings a great bunch of women together with big hearts, thoughtful personalities, compelling stories and a myriad of experience.

Since the drought has been ever so heavy upon my shoulders, I valued my week away so very much.  I spoke with my husband every night, checking that all was OK on the farm, and appreciated the time out with CWA members and the uplifted feeling that had surrounded me.

I would like to share my amateur video with you all reflecting on the fun, the engagement and the memories of the happenings with CWA State Conference in Albury… through my eyes.

Take care, Karen.

Rural Reflections #19

Opportunities are all around us to get involved with our community, seek new connections and make a real difference in this world.  To see the bigger picture and what you can offer… will also bring you personal contentment.

The Country Women’s Association of NSW (CWA) gives me a strong sense of community with valuable knowledge, friendships and a mutual commitment to improving people’s lives.  Today marks the start of another Annual State Conference, this year held in Albury NSW on the Murray River.

With the drought over-powering my strength on the farm and a need to so something more purposeful at the moment and restore a sense of life control… I arrive here enthusiastic and ready to be enlightened.  The opportunity to be a delegate at this Conference and represent our region with the policy-making decisions of a strong women’s organisation… is an honour and something I look forward to.

As I left home feeling somewhat excited about the CWA business meeting events to follow and connecting with a larger community… I also felt a little sad to be leaving all responsibilities upon my husband to solely deal with drought-feeding livestock and the hopeful anticipation of rainfall.

Fortunately, I do have a supportive husband and he encourages me to take these opportunities within my life.  He understands what makes me happy and allows me to grow as a person.  I do know if I feel strong, in control and have a sense of purpose… then I can be supportive to the rest of my family.

I always think of that image of a “jug of water” representing our own self… when we run out of water, we have nothing left to give another.  We need to refuel first, so we have something within ourselves to give to the other person.  Knowing when you need to look after yourself, seems to be the forgotten issue, especially for women.

The photo I share with you today, reflects upon my escape from farming life as I travel down the road heading for another opportunity.  The photo was taken about 10km from our property heading towards town.  Every time I go to town, this is a part of my journey.

19 The Road to Opportunity

I like this photo because of the beautiful coloured sky with the blue, pinks and mauve.  The sky looked so lovely that I stopped to capture this image.  I also like the contrast of the cultivated paddock and the dry grass along the roadside.  The cloud configuration reflects the beauty of our natural country landscape.

So as I anticipate my involvement within the CWA State Conference, I also appreciate my roots back home.  An appreciation for our beautiful country, the support of family and the new opportunities that await us all.

Take a look around you… acknowledge and appreciate what you already have in your life and have the courage to pursue personal growth by accepting new opportunities that spark your own interest.

Take care, Karen.

How To Be Successful In Your Life?

Society tells us that we go through childhood, get an education, follow a career, add a family and life is successful… in that order.  NO… this is certainly not true, as life does not fit inside that small perfectly-shaped box.

Everybody is different and has the ability to pave their own path and make their own successful journey.  Tackling life in the correct order… making the correct choices… as to how we live our lives.

“Correct” in who’s eyes?

Sometimes we need to approach life with a different perspective… do things out of the ordinary… as a means of living up to our own standards and not those of everybody else.  Be unique and follow your own purpose in life.

In our early years of childhood, we were unique individuals and free to explore the world around us… without inhibitions or feelings of inferiority.

Then FEAR sets in… with the pressure of our peers and our need to fit in.  We question ourselves and the barriers are formed.  These limiting beliefs are then carried with us into adulthood.

The toughest walls are those we put in front of ourselves.  When we realise this, life can change dramatically.

Rather than stepping outside of your comfort zone… look at expanding your comfort zone.  This thought seems to give me a feeling of not being exposed and being in control of my own choices.  I can take baby steps or a great leap… but I control how far I am willing to expand my comfort zone.

It is never too late… to try something new… and give it go.  Many people are discovering their talents, later in life and that is OK.  We pave our own path and are capable of making our own choices.

I admit… my aspirations at 18, was to get married and have 2 kids… as family was more important to me, than a career.  This did not fit in well with my Careers Advisor at high school.  But I did work in the banking industry, got married at 19, first baby at 20, then another 18 months later.

I did what I wanted to do.  I raised 2 great sons now living independently in their early 20’s.  I have been married for 25 years this year and I wouldn’t change a thing.

My point is that each of us follow our own path and believe in what we do… living with purpose.  But it must be our own purpose.

Now as an empty-nester, I concentrate on the next phase of my life.  I just started a new business, separate from the farming industry.  I offer freelance writing & administration services.  And I also have this blog for conveying my inspirational messages in writing.

I didn’t achieve success in the correct order according to many people… but it was correct for me.  We just have to believe in the choices we make, take the responsibility when things don’t quite work out and then move on.

Inspiration surrounds us every day bringing us great opportunities.  We hear about famous people bringing inspiration into the lives of many.  But you don’t have to be famous, we are just everyday people making a difference in this world.

Look around you… there are people in your circle… family, friends or colleagues… that will inspire you.  Be that person that inspires others… by being true to yourself and showing kindness and compassion to others.

We all bring something special to the table, possibly without even realising it.  We are not famous, just everyday people, inspiring others in an extraordinary way.

We never stop learning and our personalities will evolve through time as we continue to be the better person.  Strive for personal growth and you will see the success reign upon you in many aspects of your lives.

Work hard for what you want, for what makes you happy and what makes you feel whole.  Being true to yourself is where the success starts.  So hold your head up high and walk proud.

Take care, Karen.

loyalty, and persistence.”
